Ferdinand confirmed as starter for Man Utd tomorrow

Rio Ferdinand will start for Manchester United in the Champions League this week.

The former England captain has been left out of Sir Alex Ferguson's teams in recent times but has been confirmed as a starter for tomorrow night's Old Trafford meeting with Romanian club Otelul Galati, stepping in for the suspended Nemanja Vidic.

"Obviously Vidic's performance on Saturday [against Everton] was excellent. He was a bit unfortunate with the sending off in Romania. I can understand the referee's decision because his foot was high," Ferguson said.

"It was a little bit high and it's unfortunate for us that he's missing tomorrow. Rio steps in and will play tomorrow, there's no problem with that."
