Fenerbahce fans mob Man Utd striker van Persie in Istanbul

Fenerbahce supporters were en masse to greet Robin van Persie in Turkey on Sunday.

The Manchester United striker flew in to Istanbul to finalise his transfer to the Super Lig giants which is expected to take place on Monday.

Van Persie arrived at the Sabiha Gokcen airport to hectic scenes with a Fener scarf draped over him as his transfer to the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium edges closer.

The Holland international told supporters: "What I'm seeing here is incredible. Thank you for your support. I hope I can make you very happy. It is an honour to see you here."

Earlier, Fener had posted a photo of van Persie on Twitter preparing to board a charter plan to Istanbul to complete his transfer.
