DeAndre Yedlin has revealed he spoke with former Sunderland players Claudio Reyna and Jozy Altidore before he moved to the club.
The 22-year-old full-back has joined the Wearside club on a season-long loan from Tottenham and is excited to make his home at the Stadium of Light after hearing good things from past players and fellow USA internationals Reyna and Altidore.
"I'm delighted to be given the opportunity to play for a club with such great history," he told safc.com.
"I've heard fantastic things about Sunderland and the supporters from Claudio Reyna and Jozy Altidore. Claudio speaks very highly of Dick Advocaat from his time at Rangers."
Former Bayer Leverkusen, Rangers and Manchester City midfielder Reyna played for the Black Cats between 2001 and 2003 while striker Altidore spent 18 months there before leaving for Toronto FC in January.
