Marouane Fellaini is desperate to prove himself at Manchester United.
United were keen to offload the £27m Belgian midfielder to Napoli during the transfer window but their hopes were scuppered when he suffered an ankle injury.
And after surviving the chop Fellaini, who is on the way back to full fitness after treatment in Belgium, reckons he can elbow out a string of stars to win a place in Louis van Gaal's side.
He said: "I want to fight for my place. The coach wants to play with the eleven players who make the best team. I want to be part of that.
'I've had a meeting with the coach before the start of the season where he told me that there is a lot of competition in the midfield.
"I told him that I wanted to compete for a place in the starting eleven."
He added: "I think he is a good coach who organises a lot of team meetings.
"He also analyses much - opponents, our own players at training, everyone. Everywhere he has been, he was successful."
