Feel-good factor for the fans has to be priority - Liverpool great Molby

Former Liverpool star Jan Molby has stated that it is imperative for the club to keep the fans happy.

The mass walkout from Anfield during the clash against Sunderland over rising ticket prices last weekend seems to have worked as the club owners have decided to freeze top ticket prices for next season.

Molby has been left delighted at the owner's decision and has stressed the importance of keeping the club faithful content so they continue clicking through the turnstiles at Anfield.

Molby stated in his column for the Liverpool Echo: "What an amazing victory for Liverpool supporters this week, with the club's U-turn on ticket price increases. Every Red who made their voice heard should be very proud. This is a major victory for football supporters across the land, and one which hopefully will resonate with fans of all clubs.

"I was genuinely surprised with how many people joined in last week's walkout at Anfield. Not because I didn't think it was a worthy cause, but because there was no culture of doing something like that. It's not what Liverpool fans do, walk out of a game, but sometimes enough is enough. And guess what? It proved to be absolutely the right decision.

"Credit must go to the owners for changing their minds, and also for being big enough to apologise for getting it wrong in the first place. At a time when we are on the brink of the biggest television deal in football history, the timing of the original announcement was poor, to say the least.

"This is a significant victory for supporters, and the next step is already clear; to secure a cap on away ticket prices across the Premier League. That has to be a priority now, and if that can be achieved then maybe, just maybe, we will bring a bit of the feel-good factor back to being a football supporter."
