Australia U23 goalkeeper Adam Federici may miss the beginning of the English Championship season with Reading but is excited about representing his country in the Beijing Olympics.

Even the fact that Reading's other 'keeper may now have an edge on him hasn't dampened his enthusiasm for the green and gold.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Federici said, "I was hoping to challenge Marcus (Hahnemann), but the opportunity of playing at the Olympics was too great.

"I'm going to be playing internationals and I'll return with good experience. Any opportunity to represent your country, at any level or competition, is a great honour."
