Federici and his defence win plaudits from Reading boss

Reading manager Brian McDermott has spoken highly of his defensive setup which has conceded just four goals in their past seven games.

Australian goalkeeper Adam Federici has played all 16 Championship matches this season and has continued his development as the Socceroos' eventual replacement for Mark Schwarzer.

He has led the back five consisting of Kaspar Gorkss, Alex Pearce, Shaun Cummings and Joseph Mills and their performances have impressed McDermott greatly.

"We've had the back five for a number of games and we've not been looking like we're going to concede," he told the club's official website.

"You have to start from the back, we did that, and the next step is to be better with the ball as a team, we need to do that and work on the final pass that makes the difference. The more we play the better we'll be."

14th-placed Reading are out of action this weekend with the international break ahead of a home clash with fourth-placed Cardiff City on November 19.
