FC Utrecht winger Oar looking to overcome back problem to star for Australia

Tommy Oar is determined to prove his fitness ahead of Australia's meeting with France in Paris on Friday (Saturday morning AEDT).

The 21-year old FC Utrecht winger has been battling a back injury recently but is hoping to overcome that in order to help the Socceroos bounce back from their 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Brazil last month.

"I am 80 per cent sure I will be ok to play," Oar told SBS.

"I have been carrying a back injury since playing against Feyenoord a few weeks back and I've been receiving treatment in camp, and I will know in the next 24 hours how I am shaping up.

"There's a bit of pain but it's more a question of managing it to make sure there's no long term damage."

Oar added: "The whole group is under a lot of pressure after losing the way we did against Brazil.

"As a player, if you don't perform against France then it might be your last chance to get picked for next year's World Cup, so it's vital we all do as well as we can.

"We were all under par against Brazil and we need to rectify things."
