FC Utrecht’s Zullo looking for Adelaide United loan

Michael Zullo is hoping he can secure a season-long loan move to Adelaide United in order to improve his chances of making Australia’s 2014 World Cup squad.

The 24-year old left-back has not yet been used by FC Utrecht this season and sources close to the player suggested to SBS that a loan deal is in the process of being arranged.

“This move is entirely motivated by the World Cup and giving Michel the best chance of winning a place in the squad,” the source said.

“It’s not official yet but it looks like the paperwork will be signed off on Wednesday.

“It’s not a matter of the club pushing the issue, Michael is keen to make it happen because he wants to be playing regular football in a World Cup year, rather than perhaps sitting on the bench in Holland.

“He knows the only way he can be picked is to be playing regularly and has no qualms about missing out for the friendly against Brazil because if you’re not being picked by your club, how can you be picked by your country.

“The eyes of everybody will on him in the A-League, which isn’t always the case in Europe.

“It’s been Michael’s decision and he’s consulted, of course, with Holger Osieck who is fully supportive. This is the best option for him.”
