FC Twente coach McClaren: I don't watch England games

FC Twente coach Steve McClaren says he hasn't been watching any of England's successful World Cup qualifiers.

FC Twente coach Steve McClaren says he hasn't been watching any of England's successful World Cup qualifiers.

McClaren told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek programme: "I don’t. I tend to be looking at other games.

"I was at the Holland game on Wednesday looking for players so I tend to look at them to scout for FC Twente for next season."

The 47-year-old insists he has always felt England could succeed but that he was hampered by a number of things out of his control, such as injuries.

He continued: "During my time with England under Sven (Goran Eriksson) and managing, when people asked me could this team win a major tournament I always said yes they could.

"They had the ability, they had the talent, the only thing was injuries and suspensions, sendings off, a lack of fresh players cost you in tournaments and that is what happened.

"Everyone is bound to speculate as England have made a very good start and they will qualify.

"We suffered with injuries in very important games, especially towards the end."
