FC Twente coach Steve McClaren says the FA's new technical director's role has come too soon for him.
The 50-year-old former England boss was linked with the job last week and the FA are looking to make a summer appointment.
But McClaren, currently in charge of Dutch club FC Twente, said: "I won't apply. It is an office job and I may look at that in 10 years' time.
"At this moment I want to be on the pitch every day with my club. You can count me out."
