FC Tokyo gets better of A-League champs Brisbane Roar

Japanese outfit FC Tokyo has beaten reigning Australian champions Brisbane Roar 2-0 in their opening Asian Champions League group stage match.

Goals from Tatsuya Yazawa and Ariajasuru Hasegawa did the damage for Ranko Popovic's Tokyo side who did well in the wet and windy conditions to kickstart their campaign with maximum points.

The opening goal in stoppage time of the first half when Tatsuya got on the end of a lovely ball from Tokunaga Yunei to slot home before Hasegawa added a second in the 65th minute with a close range finish after a deflection off Roar skipper Matt Smith.

The defeat sees Brisbane start on the bottom of Group F with Tokyo on top after Ulsan Hyundai beat Beijing Guoan 2-1 in the other group match.

The Roar next take on Beijing away on Tuesday, March 20 with Tokyo hosting Ulsan on the same day.
