FC New York kicks off first tryout series

On November 13 - 14, 2009 F.C. New York, the newest member of the United Soccer Leagues (USL), is starting its first professional soccer talent search for its future USL First Division team. Tryouts are scheduled to begin on Friday, November 13th at 5.30 pm and are open to the public.

"We were overwhelmed by the flood of applications we received," says Doug Petersen, President of FC New York. "Of the over 800 players we were only able to accept 10% for the first open professional soccer tryout series. The tremendous interest we received leads us to believe that we are well on the way to bringing first class soccer entertainment and good family fun to New York for an economical price."

More than 80 players from 21 nations around the world will be evaluated at Mitchell Athletic Complex in Long Island and reinforces that soccer is the world's sport. Training and evaluating by some of the most respected names in the sport, including:

Dave Bond: out of the Barnsley Academy where he grew up, Dave was on trial with Reading and finished his career in Australia with Rockingham City FC. F.C. New York Technical Team

Jim Kilmeade: Director of Soccer Development of Sprinturf Inc. Jim has held various management positions at USL and Umbro USA. He is a former college player and founder of the Hofstra University Soccer Alumni Foundation

Dave McCarthy: Manager of Sheffield United Club Affiliates, which feature Chengdu Blades (China), Ferencvaros (Hungry), Central Coast Mariners (Australia) and White Star (Belgium). Former Manger of Sheffield FC and former manager of UK Clubs such as Parkgate, Hallam FC

Travis Rinker:MLS player drafted by LA Galaxy and played for New Jersey MetroStars and four time First Team "A " League All Star. Team Captain of the University of Bridgeport

David Tilley: Coach, field captain and former player for the Rochester Rhino's leading them into the USL 1 league playoffs. One of the USL's top all-time scorers and Golden Boot winner in 2002

Sergio Valencia: Former player for the El-Salvador National Soccer Team and member of the El-Salvadorian World Cup team. Professional career with CD Aguila. F.C.New York Technical team

Matt Weston: Having played professionally in England for Ipswich Town, Matt spent 4 years with the Manchester United Academy playing alongside David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes
