FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman admits he has a contingency plan in place just in case leading striker Jeff Cunningham makes the USA's World Cup squad.
33-year old Cunningham, who led MLS with 18 goals last season, is in with a chance to be selected for Bob Bradley's squad for South Africa so Hyndman is considering a potential replacement if that was to occur.
"There are a lot of unknowns right now," Hyndman said. "We went very heavy on attacking players in the draft, and one of them may very well step up to be that player we're looking for.
"We're still trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together, but it's a lot better than it was last year."
Hyndman is believed to be in discussions with an international player who could fill the position of Cunningham does happen to jet off for the sport's biggest tournament.
