FC Dallas become first US team to win in Mexico

Wednesday night saw FC Dallas become the first American club to win a match in Mexico as they defeated Pumas UNAM 1-0 at Estadio Olimpico de Universitario.

Marvin Chavez scored the only goal of the match in the 66th minute with a tap-in from a rebound following Jair Benitiez' long range attempt to give the Texans the perfect start to their 2011/12 CONCACAF Champions League campaign.

Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman was clearly delighted with the victory and can see this becoming a normal thing for US clubs who have been dominated in Mexico in the past.

"I'll tell you that the first man who broke the four-minute mile was a man named Roger Bannister," said Hyndman in relation to the famous runner's world record.

"The next week, another six people broke the four-minute mile because they believed in it."

The win has allowed Dallas to top the Group C table with the other opening match between Panamanian outfit Tauro and MLS' Canadian entourage Toronto FC to be played in Panama City on Thursday night.
