FC Basel hope to clinch a deal for Portsmouth defender Sol Campbell.

Campbell, 34, is out of contract next month and is yet to decide where his future lies, says the Daily Star Sunday.

He is wanted by several of America's MLS clubs and there is talk of a move to Spain.

Now reports claim Basel are ready to offer former Spurs and Arsenal ace Campbell a three-year deal to move to Switzerland.

Basel vice-chairman Bernhard Heusler kept his cards close to his chest.

All he said was: "We are not going to make any statement on the truth of this."
