Marcelo's weight problems could scupper Manchester United hopes of signing Real Madrid fullback Fabio Coentrao.
El Confidencial says Brazil left-back Marcelo is again frustrating Real chiefs with his weight and lack of application in training. Coaching staff believe Marcelo is overweight and his lack of fitness has contributed to his form lapse.
Real coach Carlo Ancelotti is fed-up and wants Coentrao to shake off his injury problems to challenge the Brazilian. The Italian has also played right-back Alvaro Arbeloa on the left after losing confidence in Marcelo.
United are in talks with Real about a deal for Coentrao, but Ancelotti may seek to block the switch over concerns about Marcelo's ability to last the distance this season.
