The father of Fiorentina fullback Marcos Alonso would love to see him join Barcelona.

Marcos Alonso Snr is a former Barca player, having spent five years with the Blaugrana from 1982 to 1987. But son Marcos Jr came through the system at Real Madrid.

The former Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland fullback has starred for Fiorentina this season and is now being linked with a January move to Barca.

Asked if he'd like to see the deal happen, Dad replied to Sport: "What do you think?!

"Yes, I have spoken to him over the years, but I'm not one to advise him what to do. He is already an established player and his future is up to him.

"The only reality is that Fiorentina is very happy. The team is doing well in all competitions and he is having a great season."
