Father confirms Valencia, BVB wanted Origi: But Liverpool...

The father of Divock Origi admits they found themselves at a transfer impasse with Liverpool over the summer.

Mike Okoth revealed the 23-year-old Belgian was refusing to leave on loan again this summer while Liverpool's high valuation of the player also deterred potential permanent bids.

“Dortmund and Valencia showed good interest but they couldn't match what Liverpool wanted and there was no way Divock was going out on loan again so he will have to fight for his place," the former Kenyan international told allafrica.com.

“In football, you shouldn't live in past glory but always fight to be the best and to be relevant on the day.

“[Divock] has seen the difference between Liverpool and other clubs and will obviously know that he has to fight hard to remain in Liverpool which is a bigger club.

“Three months in football is a long time and Divock is already doing well in training and the coach is happy. Let's wait and see what will happen between now and the winter window."
