Farina wants Queensland duo let loose in Canberra

Queensland Roar coach Frank Farina believes Socceroos boss Pim Verbeek should give youngsters Michael Zullo and Mitch Nichols free reign.

The Socceroos meet Kuwait in Canberra on Thursday in an Asian Cup qualifier and Farina knows the duo will serve their country well with youthful enthusiasm.

"It all depends on Pim's approach and how he wants to play, but neither would be out of place in the starting team," Farina said.

"Both are full of confidence at the moment and certainly wouldn't be fazed if they were to get the nod.

"He (Nichols) is just not afraid and he gets himself into some great goalscoring positions," added the former Socceroos coach.

"As for Michael, well, for someone who is 64kg wringing wet, he's got a big heart and plenty of aggression - not to mention his speed. He gets through a heap of defensive work, too.

"I suppose if there's one thing he needs to improve on is scoring a few more goals."
