Fans eager for Silverbacks to remain in Atlanta

Supporters of North American Soccer League (NASL) side Atlanta Silverbacks are determined to see the club remain in the Georgia city.

Silverbacks owners are pondering whether or not to sell the franchise to owners in another market as Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank gets set to unveil his MLS team in 2017.

However, Silverbacks fans are desperate to keep their beloved team in Atlanta and have planned a rally at Centennial Park on Wednesday to show how much they care.

Terminus Legion, a supporter's group based in Atlanta, released the following statement on their official website: "This rally is intended to show any potential investor and the NASL that the Silverbacks are a worthwhile investment, that they have passionate fans, and to encourage them to act to save the team."

In addition, NASL Commissioner Bill Peterson said through a spokesman that US Soccer's second tier competition is looking at all possibilities to keep the Silverbacks in their current home city.

"We appreciate the efforts of all of the Silverbacks fans that are showing support for their club," said the spokesman.

"They are great fans, and always have been. As we've stated, we're trying to work through an ownership restructuring. Our first priority is to continue to play professional soccer in Atlanta, and we're doing everything we can to make sure that happens in 2015."

The Silverbacks, who joined NASL in 2011, finished bottom of the NASL table in the 2014 Fall season with just three wins from 18 matches.
