Failure of qualifying for Europe will not send Ba packing - Newcastle's Pardew

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is supremely confident that Demba Ba will not depart the club if they do not qualify for European action this season.

The sixth-placed Magpies are looking to finish as high as possible in a bid to be involved in the Europa League next term but Pardew is calm about retaining star striker Ba - who has been targeted by a number of other clubs - if they fail to do so.

"I don't think that's something to worry about too much because Demba has made it pretty clear that he loves the football club here," Pardew said.

"He has got a great rapport with the fans - they love him to bits, and we are hoping that's going to be a big enough pull for him to stay and prolong his career here.

"I think it's important for Demba that we get European football. When you get to this level, that's what you are going to find, players want to play in Europe."
