Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton is wanted by the FA.
The Sunday Mirror says Broughton has emerged as the key target for the FA as they look to appoint a new chairman.
The 63-year-old British Airways chairman, who was drafted in to oversee the sale of Liverpool, looks odds on to be offered the job once he secures his exit from the Premier League club.
Significantly, he has confided with friends and senior football officials that he would relish the opportunity to one day lead the FA.
Manchester United chief executive David Gill, former Liverpool chief Rick Parry and ex-Arsenal chief David Dein have been mentioned as a potential candidates.
