The Football Association insist they will not appeal a five-match suspension handed to Nicolas Anelka by an independent three-man panel.
The West Bromwich Albion striker was suspended and fined £80,000 for making a gesture known as the 'quenelle' during a match against West Ham United on December 28.
The gesture is allegedly anti-Semitic, although Frenchman Anelka argued that it was actually anti-establishment, but that did not stop the panel from issuing him with a five-match ban.
The FA had come out and suggested that the punishment dished out to Anelka was too lenient, prompting a possible appeal, but they have since opted not to take proceedings any further.
"Having carefully considered the written reasons of the Independent Regulatory Commission together with our appointed QC, The FA can confirm they will not be appealing the sanction imposed on Nicolas Anelka," a statement on the FA's official website read.
"The grounds of appeal available to us are limited to legal challenges or to circumstances in which the sanction imposed is 'so unduly lenient as to be unreasonable'.
"As the written reasons make clear, The FA pressed the Commission at the original hearing to impose a suspension of greater than five matches.
"We do not consider there is a real prospect of successfully appealing to extend the sanction imposed."
