The FA has decided against charging Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano with a violent conduct charge for striking Leeds United forward Jermaine Beckford during their third round League Cup match on Tuesday. After reviewing replays of the incident, referee Alan Wiley, who claimed to have missed the incident despite appearing to have a clear view, informed the FA that he would not have penalised Mascerano had he seen the foul.
An FA spokesman said: "No further action will be taken against Javier Mascherano."
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has dismissed the altercation as "just nothing".
