FA CUP SEMI-FINAL: Chelsea put five past Tottenham to move through to final

Chelsea have booked their place in the 2011/12 FA Cup final by scoring a 5-1 win over London rivals Tottenham in today's semi-final at Wembley.

There was a very contentious goal early in the second half to give the Blues a two-goal lead but in the end, Roberto Di Matteo's were precise with their final ball to score three times in the last 20 minutes after Spurs had provided a glimmer of hope.

Man of the Match Didier Drogba opened the scoring two minutes before half-time when he latched on to a long ball from Frank Lampard to hammer a left-footer into the top corner past Carlo Cudicini.

Then came the controversial goal when Juan Mata side-footed goalward from inside the area and the goal was given even though Benoit Assou-Ekotto had managed to clear off the line with Spurs players furious at referee Martin Atkinson and his assistants.

Nevertheless, the goal stood to give Chelsea a two-goal lead which was soon cut back to one when Gareth Bale scored just over ten minutes into the second half with a simple tap-in when the ball rolled to him after Petr Cech had upended Emmanuel Adebayor.

At that stage it was game on as Tottenham pressed forward for a leveler but Chelsea found a third in the 77th minute when Ramires controlled a neat ball from Mata before dinking past an advancing Cudicini and then it was quickly 4-1 thanks to a divine Lampard free-kick as the midfielder floated a pinpoint effort from 25 yards into the top corner.

But Chelsea were not done there as substitute Florent Malouda raced on to another delightful ball from Mata to slot underneath Cudicini, making it a whitewash, and sending the West Londoners into the May 5 final where they will meet Liverpool who beat Merseyside rivals Everton 2-1 yesterday.

Tottenham: 1 (Gareth Bale 56') Chelsea: 5 (Didier Drogba 43', Juan Mata 50', Ramires 77', Frank Lampard 81', Florent Malouda 90+4')

Wembley Stadium, London - 85,731
