FA Cup replay could see O'Neill field weakened Villa side

Aston Villa face Crystal Palace in a Round 5 replay of the FA Cup tonight but manager Martin O'Neill may field a weakened side.

Villa have the Carling Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley on Sunday so the Irishman may decide to keep some of his key players fresh and leave them out of the Villa Park fixture with Palace.

Despite Wolves being hit with a whopping £25,000 fine last week for playing a weakened eleven against Manchester United in December, O'Neill says it his decision who does and does not play in HIS side.

"I am the person who picks the team and if anyone had a reason for making widespread changes that would be me," said O'Neill.

"I have to do what is right for this football club, in the same way Mick McCarthy felt he was doing right for Wolves.

"The difference between me and him, is that if I put a weak team out and we lose, the only people it affects is us.

"I know that people will be looking ahead to Wembley and the Carling Cup and expecting me to rest players, but I still want to win the game. The FA Cup is very important," added O'Neill.

"I could rest lots of people for the Palace game with Sunday's game in mind and we could go and pick up two or three injuries in training on Friday. That is the way things can go."
