FA CUP QUARTER FINALS: Everton and Sunderland must meet again

Sunderland took the lead but were quickly pegged back by Everton and that is how the contest ended, 1-1, so the teams must meet again at the Stadium of Light to see who progresses into the FA Cup semi-finals. Sunderland have still never lost an FA Cup sixth round tie away from home and must fancy their chances in the replay on home soil.

They team from the North East certainly came to Goodison Park looking for a win with their attacking intentions and took the lead with a quickly taken free kick which took the Everton defence by surprise.

Jack Colback rolled the ball to Phillip Bardsley who thumped the ball past a startled Tim Howard.

But the Toffees quickly responded with attacking intent of their own and levelled when Tim Cahill got his head to Nikica Jelavic's flick-on.

The first half continued in a similar attacking vein but no further goals ensued and after the break it was Everton who had the majority of possession but failed to break down a Sunderland outfit who were content to defend in depth.
