FA CUP - 5th ROUND: Charlton deny Sheffield Wed's derby hopes

Charlton Athletic have progressed to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup courtesy of a 2-1 triumph over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

The Addicks managed to thwart the Owls who were hoping to book a Steel City derby date with Sheffield United in the final eight.

Charlton took the lead after 20 minutes when Callum Harriott fired home from 15 yards after the ball had deflected off the back of an Owls defender.

Wednesday levelled just before the hour-mark when Leon Best, on loan from Blackburn Rovers, netted his first goal for his loan club when rifling home Miguel Llera's knockdown from 10 yards.

In the 65th minute, Chris Powell's Athletic again hit the front when Simon Church scuffed in Johnnie Jackson's free-kick and that proved to be the difference in the end.

Wednesday had some great chances to again pull level at the death but some frantic defending from Charlton allowed them to book a quarter-final date with the Blades at Bramall Lane on March 8.
