Three second half goals proved sufficient for Tottenham to see off London neighbours Charlton 3-0 at White Hart Lane. The League One visitor's had not defeated Premiership opposition in the FA Cup for ten years and at half-time, with the game scoreless, perhaps Charlton felt they could spring a surprise on a weakened Spurs side.
However, by the hour mark the Addicks found themselves three goals down and out of the FA Cup for this year as the 45 place gap separating the two teams in the league became apparent.
Debutant winger Andros Townsend opened the scoring followed by a quick brace from Jermain Defoe as Spurs found themselves three goals to the good with an eleven minute goal feast.
For Harry Redknapp the result will at least be some consolation for being unable to bring David Beckham to White Hart Lane because of insurance concerns.
