QPR needed a late goal to see off MK Dons 1-0 at Loftus Road and set up a home tie with West London rivals Chelsea in the next round. A forgettable first half showed the scale of new boss Mark Hughes's task in managing QPR as the Premier League outfit struggled to break down their League One opposition.
After the break it was the visitor's who were making all the running and how Jobo Ibehre must still be wondering how he failed to hit the target from six yards with the goal gaping.
Charlie MacDonald then shot wide with only Shaun Wright-Phillips forcing a save from the keeper posing any sort of threat for QPR.
But with a shock looking on the cards as the visitor's continued to press it was Danny Gabbidon with a header from Wright-Phillips cross who spared QPR's blushes with 17 minutes remaining.
The R's could have settled the game but Luke Young missed a chance as they comfortably held out for a first win in 11 games.
