FA charge QPR's Ferdinand for Twitter gaffe

The Football Association has charged Rio Ferdinand with misconduct for a recent comment he posted on social networking site Twitter.

The QPR defender, who was recently tipped by manager Harry Redknapp to become a key administrator in the game, has been charged for 'abusive' and 'improper' conduct for an unspecified tweet he made.

The FA statement regarding Ferdinand's charge read: "It is alleged the comment posted on his twitter account was abusive and/or indecent and/or insulting and/or improper.

"It is further alleged that this breach is aggravated pursuant to FA Rule E3(2) as it included a reference to gender."

The former Manchester United star has until Tuesday 21 October 2014 to respond to the charge.
