Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will need all his powers of persuasion to convince Raphael Varane to leave Real Madrid this summer.
That's the opinion of Jonathan Beilin, a former top scout with Nice, who has followed Varane's career since he was breaking through at Lens.
Beilin says inside French football, Varane, despite his age, is regarded as the nation's best defensive talent.
"Everybody knows in France he is our best defender," he told Tribalfootball.com. "He is a top defender.
"Unfortunately, he suffered a bad knee injury two years ago. Zinedine Zidane has a great relationship with him and it is mutual. Zidane thinks he is the future of Real Madrid, especially regarding the age of Pepe."
On talk of United tempting Varane away, Beilin adds: "It would be very surprising if he leaves Real Madrid.
"Do not forget Manchester United will not play the Champion's League next year... For the top players it is more than important. I do not think they have a chance."
