PSG's first choice to replace Laurent Blanc was Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone, it can be revealed.
Former Sevilla coach Unai Emery is set to replace Blanc, with the Frenchman finalising his payoff from PSG.
Former Nice scout Jonathan Beilin, who has close ties to PSG, says Blanc was always a dead man walking after failing to overcome Manchester City in the Champions League last season.
Beilin told Tribalfootball.com: "I will not say I am surprised. Everything changed after the confrontation against City.
"You have to understand that for the owners of the two clubs it was more than a simple game. Plus, PSG was for the first time favourites. PSG should have made the next step after three years at the same level (in Europe)."
Beilin admits Blanc's season was flawed.
"Laurent Blanc made several mistakes. Fist, he chose (Serge) Aurier, who was not ready to come back after external issues. Secondly, he changed the system after the first match - even though it worked. The team did not play at their normal level. Ask Chelsea..."
Beilin says PSG's biggest mistake was allowing Carlo Ancelotti to leave for Real Madrid.
"They made a huge mistake with Ancelotti. They want to have the best coach they can have. Simeone said no, Emery was the best option."
