Liverpool hero John Barnes has said there would have been no chance he would have joined Manchester United.
In Sir Alex Ferguson's book 'Managing My Life', the Scotsman claimed that Watford manager Graham Taylor offered the young winger to Ferguson for £900k.
However, Barnes, who eventually made over 300 appearances for the Reds and won two Premier League titles, says the success of the Liverpool team late 80's would have proved to hard to turn down over Ferguson's still-developing United side.
"As far as I know I wasn't offered to Manchester United," said Barnes speaking exclusively to Tribal Football. "And I wouldn't have gone to United, because Liverpool in 1987 were the better team, they were better than United.
"They were winning the league, in Europe. Why would I go to United over Liverpool? Obviously this is 1987, when United became the top team in the mid 90's, then maybe things would have been different, but in 1987 there was no chance of me going to Manchester United."
