EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool hero McDermott says 'certainty' Gerrard gets top job at Anfield

All the talk may be surrounding whether Steven Gerrard takes the Rangers job, but Liverpool legend Terry McDermott says he'll inevitably end up managing the club he played over 700 games for.

Gerrard, 37, is currently in talks with the Scottish giants to become their new manager, despite having no previous senior management experience.

After retiring from playing in 2016, Gerrard took up the role as Liverpool U18's coach in January last year. And McDermott believes he's destined to become the manager at Anfield someday.

"One thing is for certain, he will get that Liverpool job," McDermott told Tribalfootball.

"When it's going to be, no-one knows. He might want to stay with the 18's or he might want to try management by himself somewhere else and come back to Liverpool."

If Gerrard does decide to stay at Liverpool, McDermott says the former Reds captain can decide what role he'll take up at the club - except to replace Jurgen Klopp.

"Steven Gerrard can dictate, apart from the big job, which group he wants to take and work alongside, over the year or the year after, [and he can] learn from Jurgen. I'm sure he does that already. But maybe he'll want to spread his wings a little bit."
