EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal supporters back Usmanov plans not to sell shares

A single owner for Arsenal could have disastrous effects, according to Arsenal Supporters Trust board member Akhil Vyas.

Current majority shareholder Stan Kroenke has reportedly offered to buy the 30% share of Arsenal owned by Ukranian businessman Alisher Usmanov.

Usmanov has since publicly denied he would sell the shares to the American, but has not ruled out selling them to another buyer.

Vyas states that the power held by a single owner would result in a lack of accountability and potentially an increase in the club's debt.

Speaking exclusively to Tribal Football, Vyas said: "A single owner would be a bit of a disaster. A single owner, no matter who it is, means less or no accountability. The AGM would no longer be needed and potential fan engagement events could even be reduced.

"At the moment, any special resolution Kroenke wants to put in place can be rejected by Usmanov because of his 30% share in the club; removing Usmanov and giving that 30% to Kroenke means he could load up debt on the club like others have done elsewhere which off course is something we want to avoid.

"Arsenal with all their class and tradition have never had a single owner and the majority of supporters want it to stay that way.

"We would urge Usmanov NOT to sell – ideally we would hope there is another buyer out there however, the 30% do not represent any value so Usmanov holding onto them is our best bet if we are to prevent one single owner."
