Exciting Premiership opening round

The Premier League fixtures have been announced for the 2007/08 season.

The opening day, Saturday 11th August, has again thrown up some tremendous clashes, the most intriguing of which looks to be Newcastle's trip to Bolton which offers Sam Allardyce a swift return to his former club.

Champions Manchester United begin their defence with a home game with last season's surprise package Reading.

Of the three newly promoted teams Birmingham undoubtedly open with the toughest fixture as they head to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.

Roy Keane's debut as a top-flight manager sees him tackle Martin Jol's Tottenham at the Stadium of Light, whilst Derby host Portsmouth.

Arsenal begin at home with a capital derby clash as they face Fulham.

Of the Merseyside giants, Everton begin at home as they entertain Wigan - with Liverpool travelling to Aston Villa.

West Ham will host Manchester City, with Middlesbrough taking on Blackburn at the Riverside.
