Luciano Spalletti is already in contact with Tottenham. Spalletti was sacked by Zenit St Petersburg last week and is in contact with Spurs chief Franco Baldini.
The pair worked together at AS Roma before Spalletti left for success in Russia with Zenit.
A source told Izvestia that should Spurs fail to finish in the top four this season, Tim Sherwood will be removed as manager and Spalletti is among the candidates to succeed him under discussion.
Agent Shandor Varga said: "I would not be surprised if Luciano ended up at Tottenham. He knows how to work with the stars, which is very important for the London club's president Daniel Levy."
