Former Wycombe Wanderers striker Steve Brown believes Tony Adams will find his job at Portsmouth easier than his previous managerial experience.
Adams had a management baptism of fire in Nov 2003 when he joined Wycombe, who were bottom of League One.
Brown said: "When he came here we were in a desperate situation, we were bottom of table so things were very different to taking over at Portsmouth.
"The chairman just wanted the club to stay up. Unfortunately that didn't happen.
"Some of his ideas were very different to what the lads were used to and he was learning how to be a manager. He was a player not long ago and coming to the lower leagues was a bit of an eye opener for him."
