Vancouver Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie has opened the door for new signing Nigel Reo-Coker to make his debut in the 2013 MLS season opener.
The former West Ham United, Aston Villa and Bolton midfielder signed with the Whitecaps last week and after captaining the side in the 3-0 Community Shield win over Carolina RailHawks on Sunday, is set to take on Toronto FC on the weekend.
"He feels he can play 90 minutes, but he's not going to do that [vs. Carolina]," said Rennie prior to the match.
"But he will play a little bit and we'll see how he does and after that we'll decide how we go for Saturday [vs. Toronto FC]."
He added after the Carolina win: "I was really pleased with many things that probably go unnoticed.
"Even in the locker room before the match, he was a big presence and brought a great deal of energy and confidence to the young players. I think he needs a little bit more time to get fully fit, but I think he will be a fantastic addition to our team and an excellent MLS player."
