Ex-West Ham boss Allardyce: 'Soft' modern game not suited for Carroll

Former West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has said that the playing style of West Ham striker Andy Carroll is not suited for the modern game.

Carroll earned himself two red cards in the space of 90 seconds during his sides 1-1 draw against Burnley this weekend.

Allardyce was the manager of the East London club when Carroll arrived and believes that while aggression is a natural part of his game, it is something that will not be tolerated in the world of football today.

He said: "You are [going to get in trouble] today because it's a soft game today isn't it. It's the softest game we've ever seen," said Allardyce, speaking on Sky Sports.

"Andy is so upset with what's happened that he's lost his cool. And that the problem Andy's got. He's gone and lost his control and composer and he's looked at the situation in the first place and thinking the referee is not protecting him."
