Ex-West Brom striker Thompson: Season must not fizzle out

Former West Bromwich Albion striker Garry Thompson hopes the club does not allow the season to fizzle out.

Thompson believes the Baggies are safe this season under manager Tony Pulis.

He told the Birmingham Mail: "They're more or less done and dusted.

"When Tony Pulis has come in, he's got them organised, they don't give an awful lot away.

"They're going to get enough points to be okay. It's important, from Tony's point of view; he's going to be looking to get the points to stay up and then build from there.

"When they're mathematically certain of being safe, then he can start to improvise and look at this and this for next season.

"The one thing you don't want to do is just let the season peter out with only a few games to go, and just go out with a whimper.

"Stay up, then let's start building so when the season finishes, the fans are looking forward to next season, with optimism that we can step up again.

"Like (Crystal) Palace have done since (Alan) Pardew's gone in there - they're full of beans because they're looking forward to next season."
