Former West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Mowbray feels chairman Jeremy Peace has put the right management structure in place.
Mowbray says Peace has shown the technical director role can work in English football.
He told the Sunday Mercury: "I think the chairman has to take a lot of credit for that because the background staff stay the same.
"The structure didn't stop Roy Hodgson, the current England manager, coming to Albion.
"He basically worked under the remit of picking the team, coaching the team and having the final say on which players come into the club.
"The demands of modern football are so great with things like media, organising travel and hotels, training, dealing with a million questions that need to be answered.
"It's no bad thing if a technical director looks after some of that, Jose Mourinho has technical directors and he does OK.
"I don't think the West Brom supporters should be worried. I was the club's last 'Manager' as such - and it's a tough, tough job when you should be concentrating on working with the players and creating an environment for them to flourish."
