Ex-Watford skipper DeMerit set for MLS move

Former Watford captain Jay DeMerit is hoping to secure a move to Major League Soccer.

The 30-year old USA defender was released by the Hornets when his contract expired at the end of last season and the free agent is now setting his sights on playing in his homeland.

"Since playing back in the U.S. was always something I wanted to do, and have yet to do, it seems like the time is right," DeMerit told Soccernet.

"Until I sign a contract with any club, of course I'm open to anything," stated DeMerit. "But my main focus at the moment is coming back to the MLS."

DeMerit has already been linked with a shift to 2011 expansion franchise Vancouver Whitecaps but where he will end up is yet to be finalised.
