Ex-Watford skipper DeMerit looking for change with Vancouver Whitecaps

Vancouver Whitecaps defender Jay DeMerit says change is required to get the MLS debutants' season back on track.

The 'Caps have the worst record in the league after 18 matches with just two wins and a total of 14 points leaving them at the foot of the table.

Former Watford captain DeMerit says change is vital this summer if the Vancouver club are to turn things around in their first season in the North American top flight.

"It's important we're all on the same page because that's the only way we all get better," he told the Vancouver Sun.

"It's about finding that formula - whether it's a change in mentality, a change in personnel or a change in the system. We're trying to feel out all those things right now."

But DeMerit has turned his thoughts away from a potential crisis saying that all new clubs take time to settle.

"I've been in situations even worse and I don't feel that we're in a major crisis," he added. "I just think that the little things haven't been going our way and that's down to us to change.

"Hopefully it just takes one [season]. A lot of times, it takes two or three."
