Former Celtic striker Tommy Johnson believes current day talisman Gary Hooper is capable of forcing his way into the England squad whilst plying his trade in Scotland.
There have been reports suggesting that Hooper, who has scored 42 goals for the Hoops since July 2010, is keen to have a shot at the Premier League to increase his chances of Three Lions selection but Johnson feels that is not necessary.
"That won't go unnoticed in England. He's not had a full cap yet, but there is time for that. He is still young.
"We don't even know who the new England manager will be yet, so no doors are closed to any player.
"The new coach might come in and really like Gary. The fact he is playing in Scotland doesn't mean he has no chance.
"Gary is playing at the top of his game for a massive club and he seems to be enjoying his football.
"He has a manager who really believes in him and is at the right place to progress as a player.
"By all accounts, Celtic knocked back a big offer from Southampton for Gary in January.
"That shows how much Lenny and the club value him and believe in him. As a player, you can't ask for more.
"I watched Gary a lot when he was at Scunthorpe and the move to Scotland has been ideal for him. Only Gary will know where he sees his long-term future - but at the moment Celtic is a great club for him.""My advice to Gary is to keep doing exactly what he is doing. He has been outstanding for the last two seasons and is banging in the goals," said Johnson who also played for Aston Villa as well as Hooper's former club Scunthorpe United amongst others.
