Ex-Villa boss Gregory delighted for Hitzlsperger success at West Ham

John Gregory is delighted seeing Thomas Hitzlsperger making an impact at West Ham United.

Gregory introduced the Germany midfielder to first team football while in charge of Aston Villa.

"Brian Jones, who is now the academy director [at Aston Villa], brought him to our attention and he came to the club. He had this amazing left-foot as you've seen with the goals he's scored," Gregory told the Observer.

"The problem with Thomas, as he still has to this day, is that he's injury prone. He had one or two injuries when he came to us and we couldn't get him in the team as quickly as we wanted to."
