Ex-USA coach Bradley: Egypt situation so sad!

Former USA national team manager Bob Bradley has spoken out about the tragic scenes in Egyptian football this week.

On Wednesday, following Al-Masry’s 3-1 home win over Al-Ahli at the Port Said Stadium, fans of both clubs stormed the pitch to clash violently leaving at least 70 dead and about 260 injured.

Bradley, the manager of the Egypt team, told the Washington Post what occurred when he arrived at Cairo’s international stadium to watch the Zamalek versus Ismaily match.

“We spent the greater part of the night watching the coverage extensively, receiving reports and trying to comprehend what had happened,” Bradley said.

“Today was a day of sadness, sadness for the country and sadness for Egyptian football.

“When a tragedy like this occurs it’s important to show respect,” he added.

“First and foremost, we think about the families. And now all sorts of questions come up because there’s more to the situation. For the most part, everyone sees this as more than just fan violence at a football match.”

On Thursday, Bradley marched with Egyptians at a rally protesting violence and supporting the victims.
