Ex-Tromso, Nordsjaelland midfielder Bernier named Montreal Impact captain

Montreal Impact have appointed veteran midfielder Patrice Bernier as the new club captain.

The 34-year old Quebec-born Canada international replaces Davy Arnaud as the Impact's new skipper following his offseason move to DC United.

Bernier said: "It is with honour and pride that I wear the captain's armband for the Montreal Impact.

"At this stage of my career, having grown up here, this will be a very special experience for me and a new challenge that I am ready to take on.

"It's also nice to be recognized by the coaching staff for my leadership and what I bring to the team. It is now up to me to maintain the standard that was set by Davy Arnaud."

Bernier rejoined the Impact in late 2011 after a short stint with Danish club Lyngby BK following stints with FC Nordsjaelland and German outfit FC Kaiserslautern.

He kicked off his career with Montreal (then NASL) in 2000 before heading to Norway with Moss FK in 2003 and onto Tromso IL the following year.
